Welcome

Hello and welcome to my bizarre literary and visual art projects. I hope you will enjoy what you see here.

My current focus is on two stories, "DChat" and "Adaline's Demesne." I'm slowly uploading what I make as the days go by. Subscribe to the RSS feed for upload notifications.

Do know that these projects were not created using AI. They're hand written and drawn by myself, and my website is hand coded and designed by myself as well.

This site and Dropbox are currently the only sites I publish to. So, anyone claiming to be me or know me outside of these, or on accounts not announced on this site (like randoms in your direct messages, on a public post somewhere else etc.), is an impersonator.

If you enjoy what you see here, spread the word! Click on the Dropbox gallery link below to begin reading and please do read the content warnings file.

Privacy Statement

Privacy is important to me, just as it should be for you.

I use a bit of JavaScript. One script is for my clock at the top of the page, the other dictates the site theme selection. When you visit my site, a theme cookie gets stored in your browser to save your light or dark theme preferences. I do not track or collect any data otherwise.

If you were to send an email to me asking a question about my works and I felt that the question should be archived on my site, I will never publicly display your email address. I will only show the question and my answer.

I have no control over what Dropbox does on their web interface, visit at your own risk.

FAQ

Preemptively Answered Questions
I see people ask these generalized questions around the web a lot, so I am preemptively answering them. :)

Questions related to literary art...

Q: What programs do you use to write?
A: Xed, which also doubles as my coding environment.
Here is its Wikipedia link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xed
Here is its GitHub link: https://github.com/linuxmint/xed

Q: How did you learn to write?
A: By reading.

Q: How long have you been writing for?
A: Since I was instructed to pick up a pencil in preschool.

Q: What is your process for writing?
A: My overactive imagination creates scenarios which I then describe in a text file. Next, I spend a while editing the vignette I have created.

Questions related to visual art...

Q: What programs do you use for visual art?
A: Krita for the drawings of characters and such, and LibreSprite for traditional pixel art which I use to render buildings, maps, etcetera.
Here is Krita's official website: https://krita.org/en/
Here is LibreSprite's official website: https://libresprite.github.io/#!/

Q: Why use two programs for art?
A: Because Krita is meant for freeform drawing and does not have a "pixel perfect" option like LibreSprite.

Q: How did you learn to draw?
A: From sheer painful stubbornness, the will to teach myself imposed on me by the authors of the layer above.

Q: How long have you been drawing for?
A: Like almost all children, I began drawing as soon as I could. But, it took until I was about 13 years old to focus intently on it. I mostly practiced cartooning and I built up an identity of being a visual artist. I attempted a few times to make a comic, because I knew I also wanted to tell stories, but found it very tiresome. It took some time to break down my self-imposed identity and admit that, while I can produce visuals, I prefer writing to drawing. The process of drawing is not as rewarding to me, and that's alright! There are more forms of art than just visual.

Q: What is your process for making character illustrations?
A: I heavily reference photos of myself for complex visuals like faces and hands. I then reference depictions of my character's faces that I made using Krita's mirror tool.

Questions related to webdesign...

Q: What programs do you use to write code?
A: As mentioned previously, Xed.
Here is its Wikipedia link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xed
Here is its GitHub link: https://github.com/linuxmint/xed

Q: Where did you learn HTML/CSS?
A: I took basic classes at a community college back in 2018. Even so, I find myself routinely referencing W3Schools. Here is W3School's website: https://www.w3schools.com/

Contact

Before contacting me, please read this.

I aim to respond to you in a timely manner. Messages will be answered the order in which they were received. Keep in mind that I am in the Pacific Time Zone, so my responses will align with those hours.

You may ask me questions about my characters and worlds and in fact I encourage you to do so, though some things will have to remain secret due to spoilers.

Constructive criticism is welcome. Tell me if my story pacing could be improved, if I need to describe something more, etc. I have no formal training in the literary and visual arts, I'm doing my best.

Furthermore, do alert me of anything going awry with my site. I'm watching for things like images/text not displaying properly, incorrect links, or something worse etc. I wish to make my site as cross-platform friendly as possible (which may be a futile effort). I am not a formally trained webmaster, I'm doing my best.

Any hate mail (if you don't like what I'm making, leave) and/or spam will be ignored.

I am also not interested in working with anyone, being hired, selling my content to a studio etc. Solicitations like these will be ignored.

Lastly, please read my FAQ. If you were going to ask a question about what programs I use etcetera, it's most likely already answered in the FAQ.

All that being said...

You may reach me at my email address, adaline-guerra[at]protonmail[dot]com . You may also reach me through Neocities.

Special Thanks

I'd like to thank Solaria for the comprehensive write up that demystifies the process of creating saveable CSS themes.
